Life in a call center. Part 1

Call centers are are here to stay.  For GOOD!  Many of us have been beneficiaries of the effects that this industry has brought to the Philippines.  Most have taken advantage of it but some have been taken advantage over by it.  As the old saying goes, "it goes both ways."  Either you go along with the flow and be with the system or go against it and still make money out of it.  Either way you win and you lose.

I've been in this industry for many years now, and I've seen how it changes a man.  The lifestyle, the manner by which he speaks and moves and not to mention the way he thinks.

Spontaenous as this industry is, so are the effects it brings along.  Why don't we try to disect it one by one.  Let's start with the reasons why Filipinos are "into" the whole call center attraction..

1.) It's all about the money.  Be it a small call center company or a huge call center corporation.  It's all about the moolah!  Let's face the fact that this is the most accessible industry which offers thousands of open opportunities and the only one available in the market that offers "competitive" compensation packages.

2.) It's all about the fame.  The name of the industry itself, sells itself!

3.) It's free for all.  Whichever school you come from, whatever collegiate degree or what not you have, and no matter how old you are - call centers are open for you.  It offers a non-discriminative and a non preferential environment.  This industry never looks at the gender, age, religion or sexual preferences.

4.) It's open "english".  Provided you can speak english, be it advance, basic and yes sometimes even mediocre english this industry will take you in.

5.) It's a fallback option.  Most if not all see call centers as an option, a fallback, a reserve, an alternative and sometimes a gimmick place.

Whatever the reasons are, one has their own motivations, excuses, and alibis why they're in with it.  Whatever it is, I'll bet it is something worthwhile.  Callcenters can either make or break you.  But one thing is for sure, it's here to help us enrich our lives to better it and not to make it worse.
